Três novos casos de ebola confirmados na Guiné, África

Three new cases of Ebola disease have been confirmed in Guinea in the past week, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).Latest data from the UN health agency shows that all of the new cases had been identified as "high-risk contacts" before they contracted the virus, and that they had links to a known chain of infection.

While WHO says there's a "near-term risk" of further infection in Guinea, over the border in Sierra Leone, the country reported zero cases for a fifth consecutive week.

The latest data from the WHO shows that the deadly Ebola virus is still present in the west African nation of Guinea, albeit at a low level.Three new cases of the disease have been recorded, all from the same household in the central prefecture of Forecariah. Those infected and receiving treatment are a 25-year-old woman who is seven months pregnant, along with her son and daughter.

They can all be linked back to a girl who travelled from Ratoma in Conakry to Forecariah after falling ill.WHO is now monitoring 364 people who're believed to have had contact with the virus, a higher number than the previous week.

More than 230 additional contacts also remain untraced, and that's led the UN health agency to say that there's "a near-term risk" of further infection in Guinea. For the last 13 weeks, Ebola infection rates have remained at five confirmed cases or fewer in Guinea.
